Interview with Kiran Manisha Mohanty
Well known Chess player Kiran Manisha Mohanty became the first person from Orissa to become a Grandmaster, as she won her third Woman Grandmaster Norm at the recently held Parachute Advanced International Chess Tournament in Bangladesh. Here is an exclusive interview by Subrat with Kiran.
Subrat : Some memories of Childhood, you would like to share with our readers.
Kiran : At the age of 5, I started learning Odishi dance. And at age of 8, I completed +2 exams in Odishi dance.
Subrat : How did u start playing Chess?
Kiran : At the age of 9, I started playing chess inspired by parents. I took this seriously at the age of 12.
Subrat : Among all achievements what are the most pleasant moment of achievement for you ?
Kiran : National women A - 2007 is my memorable tournament. There I became joint champion and got my 1st Women Grand Master (WGM) norm.
Subrat : What are your hobbies except Chess ?
Kiran : Reading books and Listening music.
Subrat : Which has been your most toughest game so far ?
Kiran : Subrat, it was the game with Soumya Swaminathan in National Women 'A' 2009 at Chennai. That one was the last round, if I win, I ll get my 2nd WGM norm and my position ll be 3rd.While playing the game I was so tensed and nervous. Finally I won the game.
Subrat : Who is your inspiration ?
Kiran : My father Sir Kishore Chandra Mohanty.
Subrat : How do u manage your studies and Chess ? Is it not difficult ?
Kiran : It is difficult to manage both. Mainly I consider in Chess. Definitely I do not get much time in Study.
Subrat : What is your ultimate goal in your life ?
Kiran : To became Women Word Champion.
Subrat : If would not have been a Chess player, then what would have Kiran been ?
Kiran : I will be in Aeronautical Engineering.
